Setup & Usage Notes

Launching USB Protocol Suite

While not necessary, it is recommended that users launch USB Protocol Suite and ensure the protocol analyzer(s) are connected and up to date before beginning testing. This will avoid issues that might interfere with automation, such as a prompt requiring user action or USB Compliance Suite attempting to control an analyzer before it is recognized by the software.

Vendor Information Files (VIFs)

The USB Compliance Suite contains an integrated VIF Editor, which allows you to load and manipulate Vendor Information Files for use during testing. It can be especially useful for reviewing an existing VIF and changing individual fields. However, it is recommended that the official USB-IF tool (https://usb.org/document-library/usb-vendor-info-file-generator) be used for creating new VIFs or when more significant modifications are required.

If you run into a problem where the system says it cannot write the trace files to the disk:

  • Verify that destination folder for the trace file has write/create permissions for this capability. (Often this is NOT the case when a network file system is the target directory.)

  • Try changing the Windows Firewall Settings for USB Protocol Suite to Public.
